Hello and Welcome!

My name is Chris Blanton and I’m the marketing manager for Go Daddy Marketplace. First, I want to thank you for being a part of our merchant community. Great merchants are the cornerstone of our success, and I hope that with this blog we can discuss issues of importance to you.

Our goal with Go Daddy Marketplace is to create a premier online shopping experience. We recognized the needs of merchants to reach a broader audience of potential customers, and leveraged our success as the world’s #1 domain registrar to provide that exposure, without risk, and at a low cost.

Some upcoming improvements
We’re proud of Go Daddy Marketplace, but we know that there is still a lot of work to do. Here a couple of the enhancements we have coming soon:

  • Faster, easier checkout – This one is obvious, lets make it easier for our customers to buy.
  • Improved product page – Customers want quality information on the products they’re interested in, including large images, and we’re going to give you the ability to provide that.
  • Customer wish lists and favorite merchants – Many times customers will browse items online before making a purchase. We’re going to make it easier for them to save the products and merchants they like best.

Presentation is the key to sales
This may seem obvious, but presentation of your product is a fundamental ingredient to sales. Online customers buy products that have clear and detailed information, especially those with high resolution, attractive images. Customers rely on these details in the web realm in place of physical contact with the product and conversation with a knowledgeable salesman.

Also important is good information about your business. Customers want to know that they’re dealing with an honest, reliable merchant. Providing details about your business history and storefront goes a long way. You can edit the information customers see about you in the Marketplace manager application. Click ‘Settings’ at the top, and then ‘Public Business Profile’ on the left to view these settings.

An important note on payment
It is in your best interest to create an ACH (electronic) account with us if you have not already done so to avoid a check fee when we pay you. You can set up an ACH account within the Marketplace manager application. Click ‘Settings’ at the top, and then ‘Payment Information’ on the left. ‘Payment type’ is either ‘Check’ or ‘Electronic’.

We couldn’t do it without you
We here at Go Daddy are working tirelessly to improve Go Daddy Marketplace and bring greater value to you. Please feel free to post your thoughts or contact me for any reason, and thank you for being part of the Go Daddy Marketplace community!

-Chris

    Hi Chris,
can you add a furniture category?right now I am under computing.
Also, one of Cube in-a-box dealers has a great website placement product for small business. It is based on zip codes, no pay per click and 100 search engines.

or I can send you a PDF about it. There is also a reseller option if they know some people that could use it.
In any case I would like to offer this to help the Godaddy group just like my furniture and cubicle parts.
Thank you for Go Daddy Market Place,
    Charles Bradley

      Hi Charles,

The Marketplace team has plans to add more top-level categories and generally improve our category structure.  As we map out categorization, we will do our best to try to accommodate your request.

Thanks also for the link!  Perhaps some other Marketplace merchants will find it helpful as well.

Sure would like you to remove the search terms on each product page so potential buyers would not see this info. This should be a back-end function only.

    Thank You

      Hi Ron,

I'm assuming you're talking about product keywords.  These keywords help buyers find items they're interested in, and we actually intend to expand their usage for our buyers going forward.  In a future release, keywords will become hyperlinked to a search on that keyword.

If you haven't yet, I would recommend reading the article snippet on keywords found on the 'Seller Tools' page.  Good keywords will help you drive converting traffic to your products.

    Hi Chris,
While you are on the subject of keywords... any chance you could allow a few more characters in the Keywords field. Our product is easily classified under several distinct categories, and it's hard to know what the customer will choose to search. By the time I write 'custom birthday cakes, cake delivery service, birthday gifts' I am at my limit and would still like to add 'gourmet food gifts, chocolate cakes, picture cakes, logos on cakes, business gifts'. I am not trying to be greedy with internet storage space. I just want to make sure potential customers can find us however they may search. Since it appears that the Search function only considers the Keywords, this is even more critical to our success. Thanks for considering my comments. Sweet regards!

      Hi Kim,

On the topic of keywords, they are best used as supplement to the product name and description.  They should be reserved for words and phrases that do not appear within the product name or description, as all of these fields are currently used by the search engine with equal weight.

So if I take your Black Forrest Cake as an example (http://shops.godaddy.com/Cakes-Across-America-LLC/Black-Forest-Cake/) the phrases 'Chocolate Cake' and 'Vanilla Frosting' will return this product, because those phrases are within the product description.  The word 'Chocolate' will also be returned because of the product description and therefore does not need to be a keyword.

I hope this helps.  Here's a good article on best practices for utilizing Go Daddy Marketplace keywords:

Should our search algorithm change in the future, we will be sure to keep our merchant community well informed.  Thank you for your comment and welcome to Go Daddy Marketplace!
